Description

You can experience the maritime past of Rotterdam in the Wijnhaven. This old port suffered a lot in the Second World War. Many old buildings have been lost. The stately White House, the oldest skyscraper in Europe, is one of the few historic buildings still standing.

Lightship V11

The Maritime Museum is also located near the Wijnhaven. For young and old there is always something to do. You are taken on a journey through the seafaring past. On the basis of multiple exhibitions you will see the impact the maritime world has on your daily life. Fun for children is the permanent do-expo Professor Plons, where you can build, knot and climb yourself.

A special location in the Wijnhaven is V11. In this bright red old light ship you can drink well, eat a bite and even rent floating hot tubs, in which you can float over the historic harbors in your swimsuit. It is often worth staying until the evening, when, among other things, pop stage Rotown programs below decks.

Did you know…

Behind the Maritime Museum is a very special statue? That is The Destroyed City. This bronze statue by Ossip Zadkine is a human figure without a heart and symbolizes Rotterdam (the city without a heart) that was bombed during the war. In the May days of 1940, the center of Rotterdam was largely destroyed.

TIP:

The Wijnhaven is a special part of the city that is up and coming. More and more catering establishments are opening their doors. Similarly, Hangar 85 at - where else could it be - Wijnhaven 85. This culinary hotspot serves oysters and Eastern Scheldt lobster, among other things.
