Description

Trompenburg is about eight hectares and consists of a series of gardens with a special collection of trees: an arboretum. There are about 4000 different types of trees and plants, including a special collection from the Dutch Plant Collections.

The garden also has seven hundred different rhododendrons that visitors from around the world come to see.

Roses, cacti and conifers
The name Trompenburg refers to a loan from the Slot Honingen that was demolished in 1833. Over the years, various parts of the garden have been expanded to include a pine tree garden, a rose garden and a greenhouse. The central part was laid out in 1820, but has only been accessible to the public since 1958. A few (almost two hundred year old!) Summer oaks and a maple are left from the construction period.

Tea and such
You can enjoy coffee, tea and pastries at Theehuis de Uplek. Trompenburg is open all week from March to December, but has the longest opening times from April to October.

Did you know…
You can easily get to/from Trompenbrug with a water taxi? Book your water taxi in advance via the website. A ride to the SS Rotterdam costs 14 euros for two people, a water taxi can leave every five minutes. The water taxi departs from Watertorenweg, Rotterdam (stop 24).

TIP:
If you continue straight on Watertorenweg, you will pass Pompgebouw de Esch. This national monument was once owned by the Rotterdam Drinking Water pipeline. The Water Tower a little further on is not only the oldest existing water tower in the Netherlands, but also the address of Restaurant De Watertoren, one of the absolutely tastiest restaurants in Rotterdam!
