Description

Rotterdam Central Station welcomes more than 110.000 travelers every day. Intercity trains, sprinters, international trains, buses, trams and metros run here and there. The station underwent an enormous metamorphosis in 2014 and has since become one of the city's architectural highlights. It is the ideal place to start our route.

Many funny figures wanted to give the station a nickname when it was finally there after a long construction. After all, people from Rotterdam were so good at that, with the Kuip, the Zwaan and the Koopgoot. Names such as 'Haaienvin' and 'Kapsalon' (after our fries with shoarma, cheese and salad) were suggested, but the people of Rotterdam were not very interested, so Centraal simply remained Central.

Did you know…
Rotterdam Central is one of the best stations in the world? Engineering company Arcadis researched train stations worldwide, and our beautiful main station is number five. And also very beautiful: when it rains very hard, a waterfall of rainwater falls down on the east side of the station.

TIP:

Want to escape the hustle and bustle of the center and the station? At the back of a station you will normally find bleak deprived areas, but in Rotterdam it is different: the Spoorsingel and Provenierssingel are wonderful places to relax in sunny weather. The corner of Proveniersstraat and Molenwaterweg is always very pleasant, with a good coffee shop, a cozy pub and excellent restaurants.

The route goes to Leuvehaven, with Metro D or E in the direction of De Akkers/Slinge. Prefer to travel above ground? Then you can take trams 8, 20, 23 or 25, but get off on time at the Leuvehaven stop.
