Description

From Zuidplein, walk a little further south: this enormous building is Rotterdam Ahoy, which has provided a stage for all kinds of entertainment, sports and trade fairs for fifty years.

With a brand new conference and meeting centre, a concert hall and auditorium/theatre (RTM Stage), six exhibition and event halls and an indoor arena, Rotterdam Ahoy is a multifunctional home for all kinds of events that take place in the city.

Did you know…
The official opening of Rotterdam Ahoy was performed by Prince Claus on 15 January 1971, during the Six Days of Rotterdam. However, the first fair took place before the official opening, because in September 1970 Ahoy was the location for the Rotterdam household fair Femina. The first concert in Ahoy was in the name of Pink Floyd, who came to warm up the speakers on April 3, 1971.

TIP:
Want to relax in beautiful nature? Then walk behind Ahoy into the Zuiderpark. This beautiful park is so vast that at some point you don't even hear the city anymore. The Zuiderpark is the size of 430 football fields, making it the largest park in the Netherlands. In addition to the woods and water, there is a small beach, a swamp and an adventure playground – a wonderful place to spend your free time.

Continue traveling
You can walk through the Zuiderpark in the direction of the Slinge metro station (a nice 30-minute walk). See last photo for walking route. While you are walking you can read more about this park at route point seven. Finally at metro stop Slinge you can travel by metro to the quiet village of Rhoon (castle) (one stop with metro line D in the direction of De Akkers). Not in the mood for a walk? Then you can also travel directly to Rhoon by metro from Zuidplein.
