Description

Along the skate park on the Westblaak are dozens of small-leaved linden trees (Tilia cordata) that were planted in 1980. During flowering, these fragrant trees are an important source of nectar for bees.

This is a good example of a broad green structure in the urban environment. In the middle of the busy traffic, people eating lunch enjoy the skate park and the leafy surroundings.

Did you know?

The Westblaak will change completely in the coming years. This busy road will become a green boulevard: all the way from Oostplein to Eendrachtsplein. The renewed Westblaak will have fewer car lanes: there will be only one lane on both sides. This results in less noise pollution and healthier air.

The space that is created is mainly used for cyclists and pedestrians. The wider cycle paths are classified according to speed. So you no longer have to be alarmed by all the electric bicycles, scooters and scooters that whiz by.
