A little further on this canal is a work of art called “Elevatione”. This is a 'living' work of art by the Italian artist Giuseppe Penone from 2001.
It is a bronze cast of a tree that is 'carried' by and is fused with four gray alders with incised leaves (Alnus incana 'Laciniata') and one common beech (Fagus sylvatica). As the living trees continue to grow, the bronze will leave a mark in their bark.
In the design, Penone uses the time factor: after years the elapsed time will be readable in the tree trunks.
