The Museum Park is the place to be for art lovers. The park is part of the art axis and houses six museums that are easily accessible on foot. The two main museums are Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Kunsthal.
Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of Europe's best museums. The museum is praised for the collection of Dutch and European art. There are works by Rembrandt, Bosch and Van Gogh, but also Dalí, Monet and Gauguin. Unfortunately, the museum has been closed for several years from the beginning of 2019. There are much needed renovations for the safety of visitors and works of art. Always look at them for safety website whether a part of the museum is accessible or whether they are exhibiting elsewhere.
On the other side of the Museum Park is the Kunsthal. Twenty exhibitions are held here each year, attracting visitors from all over the world. Art can be admired in the broadest sense of the word: from elite to popular.
Have you ever heard of the necrophile gay duck? Or maybe the Dominomus and the McFlurry hedgehog? These special dead animals with a story can be found at the Natural History Museum, behind the Kunsthal. The museum has, among other things, this special exhibition with stuffed animals that have been in the news.
The Chabot Museum is located in the villa on the northern edge of the park. The museum owes its name to the Rotterdam painter and sculptor Henk Chabot (1894-1949), whose work you can admire in the museum. But in addition to the work of Chabot and many other artists, the building itself is also definitely worth a visit. The former house from 1937 is one of the most beautiful architectural examples of the New Objectivity in Rotterdam.
Once a year, the Museum Park is transformed into Europe's largest open-air cinema: the Square Cinema? In August you can watch new blockbusters, groundbreaking indie films and old classics every night on a 15 mega screen at 25 meters for over two weeks. Ideal for the sultry summer evening.
