14 May 1940. German bombers fly over Rotterdam and within a quarter of an hour they completely destroy the entire historic city center. Only a few buildings survive, including the Laurenskerk.
Below is clearly visible in the video that the church is one of the few buildings that have survived. It is also the last medieval building in the city. And so an imposing building: still historically inside with beautiful ornaments and a piece of history of Rotterdam that is rare.
You can climb the tower? From March to October you can climb the tower every Wednesday at 14.00 and Saturday at 12.00 and 13.30 hours. Definitely worth a nice photo and it is also good for the line.
You will probably see the church from the Binnenrotte. Walk around it. You can completely relax on the benches on the Grotekerkplein. Since 2017, the square in front of the Laurenskerk has also been completely renovated, making it one of the newest parks in Rotterdam. Events are regularly organized on the large Stadspodium on the square, especially in summer. And if you suddenly feel like eating really good Vietnamese food: Little Vright next to the church is a must.
PAY ATTENTION! Mouth masks are mandatory when entering the church
