Architecture lover or not: you must have seen the cube houses of architect Piet Blom. The houses look like a tilted cube on a pole. One of the houses is open to the public. The Kijk-kubus is a museum house in which you can see what it is like to live in a cube house.
Such a home requires a lot of adaptability from the resident. The windows are placed in such a way that you can look either only at the ground or only at the sky; the horizon is not visible. The residents are almost forced to be creative in the design. For example, where and how should you hang curtains for those unusual window shapes? Watch it in the video:
There are about the same cube houses in Helmond? Here in Rotterdam there are 38, one of which is a viewing cube. Be sure to walk up the veranda through the 'Blaakse Bos' to have a closer look at the houses.
Under the cube houses on the side of the Oude Haven you will find a lovely terrace where you can enjoy both the cube houses and old historic ships in the harbor.
