NO. 1 Plaswijckpark Rotterdam

Plaswijckpark is the place that has been answering the question: 'what am I going to do with the children today?' The family park does not have just one answer, but a whole range of activities for a fairly wide age group, spread over 15 hectares of indoor and outdoor fun. The rightful number 1 in the | Top 5 best things for children Rotterdam

Versatile

Anyone visiting Plaswijckpark for the first time will be quite overwhelmed by the possibilities and the size of the park. The park consists of three fully-fledged parts, or 'Wijcken', each with its own style and atmosphere. Especially for children from about 2 to 12 years old there is a lot to do, but also for other ages it is good to stay here.

Speelwijck

The most spectacular part of the park can be found on the south side: Speelwijck. This is designed with so much imagination and versatility that it seems as if it was decorated by children themselves. Toppers here are the large water playground and especially the huge traffic garden. There you can ride your go-kart along houses, shops, a gas station and even through a race track with a speedometer. The little ones were also considered: for them there is a smaller traffic garden where you as a parent can keep a close eye on how your crook takes a hairpin turn for the first time.

Wandelwijck

The classic part of Plaswijckpark is for the most part designed as an English garden: tall trees, long paths, splashing fountains and chattering birds. It is a pleasant oasis of tranquility among all the playing violence, and an excellent place to relax, have a picnic, or even take the pen to finally work on your debut collection. The Rosarium is also very beautiful, near the park entrance. A romantic place where you can stroll around even with the little ones.

Dierenwijck

Plaswijckpark does not just have a simple petting zoo, but is an animal park officially recognized by Dier & Park. It may be a matter of taste, but we think they have managed to collect the absolute stars of the animal world in beautiful spacious enclosures. Meerkats, alpacas, eagles, prairie dogs, rheas, otters and walibis… and that's just a small selection. In addition to the animal park, in Dierenwijck you will also find the Aai land, which looks like a classic farm and indeed: you can cuddle animals there.

House in the hill

Even in bad weather you could spend an entire afternoon in Plaswijckpark. In a large artificial hill in Speelwijck you will find the house of grandpa and grandma Van der Plas next to a restaurant. And yes: with grandpa and grandma you can do everything you are not allowed to do at home. The bed is a trampoline, you can put your own show on the television, you can climb in the birdcage, scramble through the cupboards and shoot with water balls in the bathroom. Whoever made this up can, in our opinion, win a creativity prize. In addition, grandpa and grandma have a considerable base, because the indoor playground has three tennis courts.

TIP:

The park can be quite busy on weekends and during vacations. Keep this in mind when planning a day. Plaswijckpark has a handy feature on the website overview stand with expected crowds. Would you rather not stand in line for fries during peak hours? In Plaswijckpark you can just bring your own lunch for a quiet picnic. Just clean up your mess of course!

Did you know…

Plaswijckpark was founded in 1923 as Theetuin Hillegersberg, making it almost a hundred years old. The miraculous thing is that the park looks very modern, but still honors the past. In 1923, for example, walibis were already walking around in the park, and you can still float on a tour boat over the Bergse Achterplas.
