Last year, the pink stage on top of Het Nieuwe Instituut was a great success. This summer, the Rotterdam Architecture Month returns with another striking attraction: a floating festival heart in the Maashaven.
The festival heart consists of three impressive floating structures. In one of these structures, visitors can enjoy greenery in a temporary park and participate in lectures, debates, films and other events. Another structure is entirely dedicated to urban sports such as freerunning and calisthenics.
The structures are connected by a walkway that doubles as an elongated vantage point. The floating festival heart was designed by the Rotterdam architectural firm Studio Marco Vermeulen, in collaboration with the designer and freerunner Onur Eren.
The theme of this year's Rotterdam Architecture Month is “Wet City”. As a port city surrounded by water, Rotterdam is strongly influenced by water and climate. In the floating festival heart, abstract challenges in the field of water and climate are translated into concrete urban solutions.
An outdoor exhibition shows innovative solutions that are already being used in the city, and offers tools to get started yourself and make the city more resilient to the consequences of climate change, for example.
