Description

Various museums are located in the Museum Park. Museum Boijmans van Beuningen's Depot building can be recognized by the mirrors on the outside. The design is by the Rotterdam architectural firm MVRDV. On top of the sustainable Depot is a roof forest with 75 double-trunked birch trees (Betula pubescens).

The collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is world famous. This collection has been growing for 170 years and currently consists of about 151.000 objects. The majority of our beautiful objects are stored, spread over many depots that are closed to the public. Incidentally, the depot building consists of about 1600 mirror panels that can only be made in China. (turned out to be a thing in corona time)

Opening
The depot building was festively opened by King Willem-Alexander on Friday 5 November. Since then, the depot building has been opened to the public.

The entire collection – which is a world first – will be accessible to the public. At forty meters, the depot building by the Rotterdam architect Winy Maas is as high as the museum tower. And offers residents and other visitors a beautiful panorama of the city and its harbor from the freely accessible roof garden with restaurant. (€ 20 must be paid for the depot itself)

Did you know?

From here you can see the Erasmus Medical Center, which also has a roof garden on the eighth floor rich with fruit trees and plants. Based on the idea 'green is good for health', patients and staff on the roof of the hospital can enjoy greenery and the fresh air for a while.

TIP:

Try taking a selfie with the setting sun! That's a challenge ;)
