The Afrikaandermarkt is a multicultural market in the south of Rotterdam. There is no better place in the city to see that Rotterdam is a true melting pot of nationalities. Rotterdammers come to Afrikaanderplein to do their shopping and have a chat.
About three hundred stalls offer food from all over the world. From Dutch herring to Vietnamese spring rolls: you can find it on the market. Stroll past market stalls, come across special products, look around the crowd and be surprised by the exotic offer.
The Afrikaanderplein was the home of Feyenoord in the beginning of the twentieth century? Between 1908 and 1917 there was a football field, where football club Wilhelmina practicing (the club that would become 1912 Rotterdamsche Voetbal Vereeniging Feijenoord). That's how the square looked like:
In the square, but missed the market? Then visit the Botanic Garden Afrikaanderwijk, a beautiful oasis of peace, and since 2000 a monument. You will find 850 plant species, and the garden is accessible free of charge, from April to November. You can always call them outside of opening hours dial for an appointment.
