NR. 2 Kop van Zuid

Rotterdam is one of the leading Dutch cities in the field of architecture. Kop van Zuid, at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge, is the architectural highlight of this. Here you will find the skyscraper De Rotterdam by architect Rem Koolhaas and the KPN building by architect Renzo Piano.

Old and New

Once stood at the tip of the Kop very lonely Hotel New York, the old headquarters of the Holland-America Line. You can still have a good drink, eat fresh fish or stay overnight. Pop singer Anouk even wrote a complete album.
The largest building in the Netherlands has been on the Kop van Zuid since 2009: Dé Rotterdam. This building contains a hotel, offices and apartments and is no less than 149 meters high!

Culturally at the top

Kop van Zuid not only consists of just a few high towers - there is also quite a bit of life. You have Lantaren / Venster, the most progressive cinema in Rotterdam, the Nederlands Fotomuseum, super theater Het Nieuwe Luxor and the Cruise Terminal. This is not only a place where sailing visitors put their first foot ashore, but also regularly sets the stage for dance parties, drinks and fairs.

Did you know…

You can easily cross from here via the Rijnhaven bridge to Katendrecht? Where this is now a hip new neighborhood, it used to be different. The bridge is nicknamed 'the whore-walker', a reference to the former red-light district. In other directions, the Kop is best reached by water: the Water Taxi is your friend here.

TIP:

Walk in at De Rotterdam and go to the nhow Hotel. Take the elevator to the 7th floor. There you will find a lounge bar with a terrace with a fantastic view of the city.
